Are you talking about memory(RAM) or are you talking about hard drive space.
I think you are talking about HD space. It is normal to lose space or actually it is reduced before you install any Operating System. It is normal. Nor you also may have a hidden partition that your laptop manufacturer did that is used just in case you lose everything. Read your manual and my laptop if you hit F12 on bootup it will automatically boot to this hidden partition and reinstall factory defaults and OS.

Let us know.
Thanks
Iggy

Windows 7 has back up capabilities. It will back up your documents, OS, and even the hard drive. This is done by default on a regular basis. As these back ups are made they are stored on your hard drive, in a separate drive, but still on your HD. What you are experiencing is normal. If you do not want these back ups made, post back and we will be here for you.

A 320 gig drive will show up as about 298 gigs when installed and formatted. That's a loss of 22 gigs from 320.

A typical Windows 7 install takes 8 or 10 gigs at a minimum. That brings the loss up to at least 30 gigs.

Without more information, it sounds like your hard drive space is normal.
