Does it appear in the Disk Management?

First thing right click on Computer Icon in explorer and click Computer Management, then go to the Disk Management it should appear. Maybe try to format NTFS and see if windows can see it after a reset.

If not you may have the problem I had, that I forgot to install the raid drivers, I have a gigabtye board, which has two gigabtye raid ports, it is not in a raid array, but they would not detect untill the driver were installed.

when i plugged it in i got the following popup from DM prog. - i didnt want to go ahead and clicl anything in case it does something to my existing hard drives (i have 3 in total) since i am unsure which disk the DM prog is referring to here, its not labelled "volume:H", so thought i'd askl here first :)

This problem also happens quite frequently if you use USB HDD's that you swap between different computers.

The simplest solution in general is to go into Control Panel==>administrative tools==>computer management==>disk management.

You'll then see your drive without a drive letter.

Assign it a drive letter and after a little while you should see the disk in Windows explorer.

If you use the USB drive a lot and attach it to different machines this problem can get quite irritating so you can overcome it by "resetting the DiskID" - a unique number generated by Windows.

Once you've done this the USB drive should be seen automatically again.

USB disks are usually assigned internally by Windows a unique ID - so if the ID is "in use" already you won't automatically see the drive.

You can reset these but take care - I won't be responsable if you lose data !!!
