A few months ago i bought this computer and now it's beginning to mess up. Everytime i turn it on, it works fine for about10 - 25 minutes before everything becomes unresponsive and slow. I have tried using ctrl+alt+del and selecting Task manager when this opens i go to 'Resource Moniter' and click the Disk tab and the blue line should hang around the bottom but after a while it goes up to the very top and stays there and the light on my computer with the stacked disks above it turns on instead of flashing on and off before my computer becomes unresponsive, my only solution so far is to press and hold the Power button until my computer shuts down. Please Help me.
Im not having much joy. Running it in safe mode appears ok, the HDD is not in over-drive and the system responds.
I completed ... 1. Check for infection by installing Malwarebytes, update, run a Full Scan - in Safe Mode with Networking if necessary. <-- DONE in safe mode : No problems detected.
2. Many issues can be solved by running a free lightweight AV like Microsoft Security Essentials with the Windows 7 Firewall for best performance. <-- DONE in safe mode : No problems detected.
Safe mode makes it operate normal (ie it responds as expected, HDD lays idle)
3. Establish a Clean Boot by unchecking everything in msconfig>Startup except AV: Startup Programs - Change. ß X
Machine won't start/respond in a normal boot. Soooooooo laggy. After 30 min, was able to run msconfig and disable all non MS services and disable normal startup items, reboot and the problem persists. Rebooting took ages, it eventually logged off and shut down hung so powered down. Hard drive looks like its pre-occupied.
After reboot, mouse moves around the screen but when I try to do anything like open a folder I have to wait. Tried running MSCONFIG again and it responds with the error C:\Windows\system32\msconfig.exe This operation returned because the timeout period expired.
I feel like the HDD is doing something and the OS is using the HDD for memory or its critical tasks so it’s the whole OS runs like a 286.
Other things I did were:
· Rang a memory test and that’s all good. · Left it for 2 days in case the OS wanted to clean/test/do something
Run memtest 5-6 passes or overnight to stress test RAM, following steps in tutorial to isolate problem stick or slot. Swap your RAM sticks, clean debris from slots.
