Hello. I'm using Finnish Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I have a 500GB HD, parted in 2 parts. Both parts are 232GB. I'm using the part C: as my main part. The other part, Share (E:) is just a place where we put photos etc.

Now I made the Share (E:) part smaller. It's now 100GB only, and I have 105GB as not-used. I would like to expand the main part (C:), but the original Windows program won't allow me to do that. Here is a screenshot: ("Laajenna asema..." means expand the part)

hard drive partition problem

I have purchase new hp laptop with hard drive 500gb. There is two partition, that contain windows and recovery. I want partitioning of C almost 400gb. while partitioning there is problem, "C" is shrink to make unallocated volume .when this unallocated volume is used to make new drive, the problem persist showing that :
"The operation you selected will convert the selected disk to dynamic disk. if you convert the disk to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating system from any volume on the disk (except the current boot volume). are you sure you want to continue?"..... when i click yes.... another window appear showing that...

"Dynamic disk are not supported by this operating system or server configuration . dynamic disks are not supported on clusters."

You already have 4 partitions.

If you try to make another, windows will convert the disk to dynamic - which you don't want.

You will need to use Partition Wizard (see above posts) to convert one of the existing partitions into an extended , then you can divide that into logical drives.

Post a screenshot and someone will advise exactly how.

Fortunately he does not have dynamic disks yet - but he is about to get them if he does not act.

One option is to convert the C partition to Logical (since you have the 100MB active partition)
Another option is to delete the volume in this new 135GB space and make that a Logical.

But in any case, why do you want to expand the C partition - let me guess: because you accumulate more user data.. In that case I would use the 135GBs to create a data partition and move all (or some) user files there. That is a lot safer for your data. If your system ever fails, at least your data is safe.

If that is somethig you would consider, post back and we'll give you more details on how to do that - it is quite easy (if you know how - LOL).

Dear ifi,
A hearty welcome to the site! As mentioned above, you must first convert the "dynamic disk" to a "Basic disk"! Kindly view this video, which is of great help!

: How to convert dynamic disk to basic disk with Partition Wizard?

Regards,
Sreedhav:)
Apart from the fact that the OP does not have dynamics yet, you should specify in your post that you need the old free PW version 4.2 for that. The current free 5.x does not do that any more - unless you buy the Pro version.

Dear whs,
my assumption that he has already a"dynamic disk" was an error! I have never used the partition wizard before! Thanks for the corrections!
