Hi,

You might want to try a few things:

1. Run a chkdsk /R from an elevated commmand prompt
2. Get a health ansd S.M.A.R.T status of the disk - try CrystalDiskInfo

Post screenshots of both so we can have a look at this for you.

Regards,
Golden

Did you check "Better Performance" in Policies of the Device Manager Properties of this disk.

Type device manager into the start/search field and click on it. There you double click on Disk Drives and then double click on the disk in question. There you click on the button called Policies. There you will see.

Just make sure you always safely remove your drive because else you might loose data. The chances are slim, but anyhow.

It sounds like your drive is dying. I would get any data off it I could, and then check on your warranty status.

Perhaps it is just a bad drive or cable but I have had indications of a few devices being bad - Event Log errors - and since the particular drive was new I didn't really think this likely as I have never had a new device being bad, although I know it happens.

What I did and which has appeared to solve the problem was to delete the USB Root Hubs in Device Manager - although if you have a USB mouse or keyboard then it will lock up your computer and a hard shutdown will be necessary. The USB drivers are reinstated on reboot.

It worked for me at least.
