Hard drive

Hi. i thought i would try and get data from an old broken laptop, i bought something called a usb hard drive enclosure to do this with but i am totally confused as what to do with it i do not know if i have everything that is needed i have a usb lead plus the enclosure i really have done some searching on how to use it but i am getting confused every time i look , my hard drive that i have got does not match exactly like the ones ive seen online the same model etc. i originally bought this item to use from a laptop xp to desk top xp but now i have changed my mind i would like it on my new win 7 one so would i need something different or if there is an easier alternate i would love to know, its stressing me out

Does the laptop connection look more like the first or second drive?

Could it be you have a SATA-to-USB enclosure, and an IDE drive?

If the disk fits into the enclosure, you should be able to attach it via USB to Win7 and be able to read the data. If it comes from XP, it might be formatted in Fat32, but Win7 can read that. Just think of it as any external disk or USB stick.

I must confess I hadn't heard of them either. I found that pic by doing an image search for sata connector.

it looks like the ide one, i took a photo but i cannot post it for some reason, mine does not seem to have as many pins in and i cannot get it to fit anywhere onto that enclosure.Pearl x

Does the possibility exist of taking your drive and the enclosure to a computer store and asking them if you have the correct enclosure?

That is not a Sata - looks like some IDE. You have to match the enclosure to the disk.

Hi Karlsnooks. yes i suppose i could really cos i havent a clue nothing seems to be quite right or fits into anything. the old laptop was at the computer shop for a few weeks when they said they could not fix it i hope it has not been damaged

At a guess, what you're looking at is some sort of adapter bracket, rather than the actual drive interface.

Can you remove it? I imagine that you'll find a standard SATA interface underneath it.

The drive model number may confirm that. All that I can make of your snapshots is that the drive is a Fujitsu product.

Hi. i have took the drive out of its case and took like a bar of the end to reveal a lot more pins the images are of the hard drive also of the enclosure i have purchased , yes it is a fujitsu. thanks for helping me .pearl x
