Since I moved to windows 7 via upgrade, I have noticed that my hard drives are filling up. I have two hard drives 1. is the main drive HP (C:) and portioned to drive (D:) with factory image and drive 2. which is; NEW_VOLUME (E:). Before the upgrade, E: drive had about 250 gig free space of 298 gigs. Now it showing only 113 gigs of free space and yesterday it read 120 gigs of free space. There are some strange file folders in there now that wasn't in there before. Why is my drive filling up so fast and where did these files come from? Screen shots.

If you upgraded and did not do a fresh Install they are most probably the old version of windows that you upgraded from.

Disregard my first post! They look like an automatic Image back up made by Windows. Have you set it to make automatic updates ?

1. Look for windows.old which is your old system. If you don't need anything from it any more, you can delete it in elevated cmd with this command:

rd /s /q c:\windows.old

2. Have a look at your shadowstorage - also with elevated cmd and the command:

vssadmin list shadowstorage

you may have had a lot of updates and the system most likely has allocated a sizeable amount of shadowstorage.
