I just upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate from XP. When I go to play Chess Titans, or any other OEM game on my computer, it gives me the following message:

"Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on"

How do I get to the setting on my video card to fix this? It says that all my drivers are installed correctly and are working fine. This is on a friends computer and i am stumped. SOMEONE HELP!

Thanks!

You may want to fill in the "system specs" so people can help.

I would get the latest driver for the video card or on board video first and go from there.

Check dxdiag for any issues too. Hardware acceleration should be there too.

I have experienced exactly the same problem.

Some more details :

I have just upgraded from XP to Windows 7. Everything working fine on my computer, it is an old but good machine. It is an HP Pavilion a1110n. Processor is Celeron. I have a 132 GB hard disk and I have added 500 M memory to a total of 1 G, as a minimum recomended to run Windows 7.

I am happy with Windows 7, looks a lot better, faster and more stable than XP.

I have nothing added that relates to video games, not hardware nor software. The only thing I added was a 250 M ZIP drive for backup. Working fine both under XP and Windows 7.

More details on the problem : When I try to run ANY game provided by Windows 7, I got the warning on the accelerator as mentioned on the first post, exactly the same. The games play OK, only quite slow to do anything. For instance, I have to wait a few seconds before it moves a piece on Chess Titans or Mahong. Both playing and displaying correctly. Spider Solitaire is also slow. 3D view not enabled on Titans Chess.

I have tried to disable video acceleration on Control Panel, did not fix the problem, still the same error message.

Also, I have the automatic updates enabled. Seems better to have it on with Windows 7. It has found and updated drivers for sound and printer, initially I had trouble with these two also. Windows 7 found all it needed online.

I have tried to troubleshoot it with Windows 7, to look for new drivers, etc. It says best drivers for video already installed.

Should I try to increase memory to 2 G ? Maybe it needs some software related to the acceleration ?

Update your drivers with the guide in my sig, and put in as much memory as possible. 2GB is the absolute minumum, I would not use a 7 PC without 4GB.

New!!! RARE PNY GeForce 8400GS 512MB PCI TV DVI HDTV Graphics Card - GM8400SPUE49D-SB £50.00 UK(inc post) includes high definition support too!

PNY GeForce 8400GS 512MB PCI TV DVI HDTV Graphics Card on eBay (end time 19-Mar-10 15:37:48 GMT) graphics

Your PC seems to have 'built in' graphic chip - no card - which also steals 64mb memory from your ram chips!

"Integrated with up to 64 MB allocated video memory
"

I don't know if you have AGP slot can't see one.

How about investing in a modern 512/256mb PCI graphic card (NOT PCI-E xpress) - you can get them pretty cheap on Ebay.

My socket A pc - Win 7 uses 30% 'minimum' of 2GB memory just sitting still with aero on.

I totallly agree with the advice you received regarding adding more ram. Put 4G in your system. You will never regret the decision. Win7 will "run" on very little but, like all operating systems, will glady accept as much memory as you can give it.

Expand your memory. Memory is dirt cheap. Your time is too valuable to waste on an inadequately powered system.
