Hi all,

I have a fairly old machine that I've upgraded just over a year ago.

I'm using it mainly for media shares around the house and video editing. It runs 24/7.

I'm looking to upgrade to larger hard drives as I'm running out of space but want to know if the power supply I fitted is running near to its limit or not. I have no idea how to work it out.

What I have is an Acer aspire e700 desktop from circa 2007.

Motherboard : Intel G965

Processor: intel core 2 duo kentsfield 2.4ghz
Maximum power dissipation ? 155.25 Watt
Thermal Design Power ? 95 Watt (Stepping G0)
105 Watt (Stepping B3)

Power supply unit: Corsair 500w bronze

Graphics card:TDP
40 W
Suggested PSU
200 W

HDDs
X4 2TB
Western Digital 2TB EARS Caviar Green Hard Drive 5400rpm 3.5"

Front usb micro SD SD card reader hub

Display is through an LCD 32" TV.

1x dvd writer drive.

CPU fan and an 80mm chassis fan

X3 2gb ddr2 ram sticks
X1 1gb ddr2 ram stick.

Not sure if I've missed anything. I've no idea how to work out what the total wattages would be at idle (20%) CPU load and what the combined wattage would be under full cpu load.

Thanks in advance
Rob

If your Power supply unit is a Corsair 500w bronze, you have plenty PS to install as many drives you want.

CPU and GPU are the devices that demand most of the power, not HDDs or SSDs.
