ICit2lol The strangest thing occurred with me . I got to show you a picture. So I put the Windows Vista Recovery Disk, see for yourself. By the way how do I get into safemode?, This Laptop a Toshiba Satellite . Does that mean the client lost all his stuff or what. Maybe that's why Windows Vista couldn't start, there is no driver.

Look raiden it sounds like a temp problem with the no go as it sounds very much like it has now cooled and the CPU or what can function.

Check with Speccy and let me know. If the temps are CPU in excess of say 55C and the motherboard say 60C then you can check the cooling system very quickly by shining a very bright light into the exhaust vent aperture and then look into the fan aperture. You should see quite a bit of light shining through if not the little cooling "radiator" is probably chock full of crud.

http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download

Most likely is the cause seeing it is a Vista machine anyway let me know the model number / version and as important the PART NO as in my pic. Underside of the machine.

I have a good Toshiba reference site I use for fixes where I can forestall getting info if need be.

Now the pic is a little blurry so I can take it as a L350D? if so see pic and see what I mean by the light etc

You mentioned earlier to there was not HDD shown. Now in that DISKPART pic I see you have "list volume" where you should have had "list disk" That screen is just showing you what is on the drive as in volumes.

The problem is can this machine be booted at all? If so go back to diskpart and get list disk up not the list volume.

No not confused raiden but am beginning to suspect the hard drive may be dead or at very least the OS is very corrupted possibly a malware I suppose but unless you have some way of hooking that drive up to another machine so we can see inside it then we are stuck with probably looking at a new drive or second hand one.

It is a real shame we cannot see what the temps are doing though.

Now I suppose there is that recovery disk can you get into the BIOS and set it to boot from the optical drive insert the disk and save and exit BIOS.

If this give us a picture (screen) then maybe that drive has dropped it's bundle. Did it sound noisy at all when it was working? - the hrad drive.

You mentioned a while ago how people treat their machines - id the owner a very young person and is the machine full of crap like the Apple stuff.

i did a Vista recently that I ended up putting a new drive and 7 into because the rubbish that was on the drive and the drive itself was not the full dollar.

If the machine is worth saving then that is an option although it is going to cost a new drive and an OEM 7 Now I don't know about prices where you are but here that would cost around $70 for a Seagate 500GB and $100 for the OEM 7. Of course those are retail prices and you may know someone in the trade but... an option.
Personally and depending on what the machine is used for an SSD is the way to go and back up lots of data to an external but the SSD out here would set you back $99 for a Samsung 840 120GB plus you would need the back up if it was used for a lot of say photos. But even those could be stored on sticks it all depends on the owners needs.
So either way it would cost around $175 - $200 to fix it like that. Against a new machine again I don't know the prices in your part of the world our here a fairly decent laptop with an i3 core with 4GB around $450.

ICit2lol Yeah I can access the BIOS and yes I set the first boot as a CD and it worked well . But when I choose the option repair my computer. I had no hardrive to choose from. It was empty , I think I send you an image already of that. Incase you missed it here. This is a customers computer by the way not mine. I know how to take care of my stuff lol. Would the Windows Vista Product key Still work , because I think there is a product key under the laptop.

Well mate I am sorry if I preached to the converted I thought you had one of the families machines there I am no expert so unless I had it in my hot little hand then I am of no use to you.

The only thing that I would be doing is take out the hard drive and hook it via any method (I just use one of the USB gadgets instead of opening up the machine) and see if the drive is picked up by the machine it is hooked up to. Anyway sorry to have wasted your time.

Good luck.

No mate you said to me you can look after your stuff so I took that as what am I doing here then thats all!

I did see those pics and well if nothing is coming up when that repair starts up the drive is not recognised in the BIOS you cannot get safe mode going then something is very wrong with that machine, and in my mind the drive in particular..

Like I said I would be pulling that drive out flipping it on another machine to see if it is dead or not first then I would be reseating the RAM and probably try another drive in it even if it came up with this drive is not recognised at least it would eliminate by degrees the culprit. In fact I would have the machine in pieces by now.
Now I have had a couple that have been real pains and on those two in particular it was down to the battery being defunct - why I have no idea but it did fix whatever was wrong when we replaced the battery

If you would rather I had no more input then I don't mind because it is an old machine and it could even be more than just the drive if the thing has been roughly treated. Just le the thread run and perhaps someone else with a fresh set of ideas might be able to help.

I Meant in general . My bad for the confusion . Should I just reinstall Windows for the Client , I am afraid that's the only option he has. Didn't mean to be a prick dude, I apologies and I appreciate the help,

Apology accepted look we all get "wayward" sometimes I'm no exception.

Yes I think whose ever that machine belongs to has given it a bit of stick over time and being Vista like I said is probably seen the best part of it's life anyway.

I am guessing too that even if you stick a new drive and 7 in it it probably won't be long before it's back with yet more problems. Anyway the choice is theirs I suppose.

The prices I quoted are retail for me and if you do this for a living then you can get those items a lot cheaper than I can so myself I would be putting in a 500GB Seagate and an OEM 7 I have limited choice out here but I do like the Seagates to be honest.

As for Toshibas I used to have them all the time myself until the last two and the quality has gone down the gurgler so there will be no more for me I just pick up on Toshiba stuff because I ma a fairly used to disassembling them.

If you want a fairly goos site for taking them a part this is the one I use as the Toshiba support is pretty lousy too.

Taking apart Toshiba laptops and notebooks. DIY guides. Disassembly instructions. some really good tips on the first page and the list is quite comprehensive though you have to use close proximities at times but they are usually close.

In a nutshell yes raiden depending on what he wants of course. If it is Vista then don't hold your bretah if you haven't got the install media I tried a few times now for ISO's for it and XP and there isn't any I know of. Anyway it is a crock in my mind and 7 is the way.
