The MCE remote does not need any driver or software to work. All you should need to do is plug in the little IR receiver and it will be recognized as a keyboard. A keyboard that happens to know how to send the right keystrokes into Windows when you press buttons on the remote.

Here's an interesting thing I did the other day. I have a Hauppauge 1800 MCE kit in one of my HTPC boxes. It works well. My ASUS C90S notebook happens to have an IR receiver built in. I fired up MC7 on that notebook, grabbed the MCE remote and started pushing buttons. They all worked as expected. That's how a MCE certified remote is supposed to work - no special software or drivers to install. Just point and shoot.

Try a different USB port. Does the IR receiver show up as a keyboard?

Bye.

Ir reciever should have to installed, what comes with it is a "blaster" to send signals from the pc to a cable/sat box. this remote works with vista with no reciever installed, must be built in. I notced at times my ASUS laptop has media center open too. I do have one "unknown device" in device manager tho
