Hi all. I d/l-ed the Parkdale HDD r/w speed test, and ran it. I have the numbers, but how do I know how close I am to spec - or how far off? Do I need to go to the manu's site, and get the numbers from there, or....?

Thanks in advance.

Probably because we don't even know what HDD's you have.

Not sure I understand the Probably because part, but...

Should I list the HDD manufacturers? How does that help?

If someone felt so inclined they could look up your hard drive on the manufacturer's website to see what the speeds should be from the product specifications, then post them here so you can use that information to compare to the results in the test you took.

Or...... you could do that yourself. Might save some time.

I could - just wasn't sure if those #s are available on the manufacturer's website... will go have a look. Thanks.

There's a pretty good chance someone else has the same HDD as you and that they have benchmarked it.

You can Google for those results and compare your own results to the Googled results to give you an idea if your results are similar to what others get---representative of what can be realistically expected.

Never heard of the Parkdale test. So you may have to run a more common test such as HD Tune to be able to find other results on Google.

Manufacturer's speed claims are often of the "up to" variety, so may not be very informative of actual realized speeds, so I wouldn't put a great deal of stock in them. What does it tell you if Ford tells you that your car could get "up to" 50 mpg, when that is possible only in highly controlled and limited circumstances? Not much.
