I have recently been getting bad sectors on my F drive which is not my windows drive but I have re-directed stuff to it.
today I got over 20 bad sectors so I thought i'd better replace it.
I do hourly backups on all drives using 'shadow protect desktop'
so it was easy for me to restore a copy to a spare drive.
I thought I could then remove the old drive leaving the new one in place.
The most I thought i would have to do is to change the new drive letter to F.
So after re-booting I found windows all loaded OK but when I clicked on 'Mycomputer' or 'Control Panel' i got a long wait followed by an error.
not being able to get into control panel I couldn't change the drive letter so I re-fitted the old drive leaving the new one in place and rebooted.
Now I could get into disk management I thought I would change F to X and then make my new drive F
well I can change the new drives drive letter but Not the old F drive. It lets me do it but firstly pops a box saying 'some programs that rely on drive letters might not work' I click OK and then pops up an error box saying 'the parameter is incorrect'
so I'm stumped! I thought this would be easy
can anyone help me please?
thanks
Mike
