Haven't Been Getting Updates for Office 2010

Office 2010 Pro Plus on Windows 7 x64 sp1

I recently ran BelArc Advisor and was surprised to see that I hadn't been getting security updates for Office 2010 for about a year (list of missing updates below).

Windows Update appears to be working correctly as far as Windows is concerned (I do get the Patch Tuesday updates), and in WU settings the box under "Microsoft Update" is checked to "give me updates for Microsoft products, etc." I do not get any WU error messages.

I unchecked the Microsoft Update box in WU settings and then made the registry edit to get back the option to choose automatic updates when an Office program is started.

I then restarted the computer, opened Word, and selected the automatic update option.

I then went back to Windows Update (which at that point showed red and said "never checked for updates") and manually checked for updates. Same result: it just says "No important updates available."

I know that I could manually install the updates below by downloading them from the Update Catalog, but is there any way I can get WU back to looking for Office updates?

What version of Office 2010 are you using & did you purchase it or was it part of your employment or education?.

You are probably going to have to reset windows update. This will erase your update history but the updates will still be there. Script Reset Windows Update Agent

As I wrote earlier, Office Professional Plus 2010. Yes and yes. For what it's worth (and I don't see how it's relevant), this product has a volume license MAK key. And until approximately last March, it was getting updated via Windows Update.

If it's has a Volume MAK license then that may have expired. If you are still engaged with the organisation that supplied it to you then check with them & see if it's still current. The fact that updates ceased last March indicates it may have expired.

Click on the file tab and then help. There you will be able to see if it is activated.

My installation of Office is activated and has always been. That's not the problem.


Here's some more information:


I ran the Windows Update Reset script (which naturally deleted my Windows Update history), but WU still wouldn't offer the missing updates.


I then decided to manually download and install each of the updates that Belarc listed as missing.



Surprisingly, each one of these installers reported that the update was already installed. Whatever these individual updaters look at to determine whether an update is installed must be the same things that WU looks at. It isn't surprising, then, that WU won't offer updates that it thinks are already installed.


However, when I compare the file info in the various KB articles to the files on my system, I do not have the updated files. And my versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are still at 14.0.7100.5000, which I know is not the current version of any of these applications.



Any suggestions on how to force the updates?


Should I completely uninstall and reinstall Office 2010?
