i recently installed windows 7 ultimate as a fresh copy and before that i formatted my c: then the new copy was installed to the c:

while the set up running i got msg telling that old windows installation is detected ,then the only option i had is move that old files to a folder named as old windows.so i chose that option

then after the installation when i start the laptop i had to choose between two operating systems (both named as windows 7).i chose the first one and startup was normal....later i chose the second one then system can not be started due to missing of files..

i formatted the rest of drives.and still found that i am getting that start up screen with two operating systems..so i delete the old windows folder which was created during the first installation.then also i got the strange startup screen with two win 7 OS's .

after that i again installed the windows 7 ultimate again formatting c:...and i'm still getting that startup screen which i has two chose a OS...

i want to get rid of that strange startup screen...
please help'
thank you

i am using dell i3 laptop 2gb ram,..

Yes with EasyBCD Edit the BCD file to remove the second entry. Make sure you are removing the right one.

Apparently you installed to another partition than the one you thought.

It isn't enough to hide the OS as you want the old one removed.

Please go into your new Win7 and post back a screenshot of your maximized Disk Mgmt drive map with listings, using the Snipping Tool in Start Menu. We can tell you how to remove the old OS and recover the space.

Or follow the steps linked earler to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 since there are probably other steps which were missed resulting in an inferior install when you could do it over to get it perfect. Be sure to delete all partitions during install as suggested was the problem here.
