Hello,

Have copied a Folder from another PC that has a program in it to the Desktop of a new PC running W7. Program happens to be Cliptrak, but that's probably not too important as this is more of a general question.

Now that I have the Program Folder on the Desktop, how do I get it in the All Programs listing ?

I tried dragging it to the Start Button, and I also tried opening Computer and dragging it to the C: drive icon shown there. No luck either way.

What is the proper procedure for doing this ?

Thanks,
Bob

Is that program an installer? Install it and that will do it. Installers usually add stuff to your registry. If not, try copying it to Program Files or Program Files x86 if you x64. That might do it.

Make sure you have 'show hidden folders' turned on - to do this go into explorer, click on organize, then folder and search options. Under the second tab there will be a toggle switch to 'show hidden folder, files and drives'. Make sure that is selected.
Copy the program folder that you have into C:\Program Files. Then find the main executable (it will be something like Cliptrak.exe) and right click > create shortcut. It will send this shortcut to the desktop.
Now go to the desktop, right click and cut the shortcut you just made.
Then just open explorer and browse to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs. Right click > paste the shortcut from the desktop into this folder.
And there it is! under the all programs in the start menu, and it is now searchable as a program.

You can then turn off 'who hidden files and folders' once that has been done.

From OP

Hello all,

Thank youvery much for the great info.

Terrific forum, particularly for someone a bit on the elderly side.

Appreciate very much the help.

Sure is a lot to learn, but am trying.

BTW: PCMag wants $ for the enhanced Cliptrak.
No big deal, but, frankly, the old simple one does just about everything I need.

Regards,
Bob
