Having a WLAN problem

Hi, I have a brand new Acer Aspire 5532 Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and I'm trying to connect to my Netgear Router I have in my house, I have 6 other computers in the house and all connect fine, except the Acer, the WEP key was accepted at setup, but now when I pick my router off of the Wireless Connections List, a dialog box with on it Network Authentication and it's asking for a user name and password which I have no idea what they are, I do have a user name and password for getting into the Router settings, but just to simply connect onto my network only requires a WEP key, no user names, no passwords. It is starting to do my head in as it will not connect without this phantom username and password. Incidentally I have already tried the username and password for my router and the username and password for my broadband which was only fed into the router, no other computer on my network has asked for this before

have you run the windows 7 troubleshooter? right click on wireless icon in taskbar >left click troubleshooter

Hi, thanks for the replies so far, it finds my router no problem at all, it just won't let me connect to it without this username and password that I do not have and never set up.

1) This could be WEP misbehaving. Try changing to WPA. Though you'll need to do this for each of your other computers.

2) In the problematic computer, go to the network icon in the right bottom corner (System tray). Right click on that and click on network and sharing centre Or go to control panel and click on network and sharing centre. Click on "Manage wireless networks". Then click on the network and click on remove (including your network also. After removing all the networks click on "ADD" option and click on "Add the network which is in the range of the computer". There you can see the new network. Click on that and click on connect. Enter the new WPA password and click on connect.

Panic over, I've sorted it, I connected it with a patch cable and put it straight into the router which put me on the net straight away, then I deleted the existing wireless setup and then set it up again manually with the SSID and WEP key, so hopefully I can sit back now and enjoy my new laptop, of course I have my Aunties old banger of a laptop to fix now..........
