Hi,

My current laptop (AMD 64 Turin) is running Win 7 RC 32-bit. I am trying to install the RTM version of Win7 but this time trying to install the 64-bit version. I am not trying to upgrade it but clean install. But as soon as I launch setup.exe I am getting the following error:

"The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."

Any idea how to get around this? Thanks much!

You need to get an ISO and boot from CD.

because 32-bit Windows can't run setup.exe from a 64-bit DVD. It's 64-bit.

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
1. Burn ISO to DVD
2. Restart computer with DVD inserted
3. Access BIOS and select CD-ROM as boot device
4. Follow on screen directions
5. Format and install

 LOL

My issue was very simple ... I should have gone into the BIOS and selected that the 80GB drive I sold was the priority drive, then it would have installed the files on it, instead of my main drive. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Lesson learned! :geek:
