Having trouble overwriting this file

I have tried everything to overwrite this file in system32 called imageres.dll
I've tried using system file replacer, taking ownership and whenever I try to do so it just says this file is in use by another program
How do I get it to work?

After taking ownership, try to kill the process which uses this file. http://unlocker.emptyloop.com/Unlocker will help you with that.
Than rename original file in system32 folder into imageres.dll.old
and copy new file.

If all of that fails, try to boot with a LiveCD (like Ubuntu or other linux distribs) and do replacement from Linux.

Make sure you create a system restore point so if something goes wrong you can fall back on. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/697-system-restore-point-create.html

First you need to take ownership then you have to give permissions use these two tutorials.

I see you're using 64-bit you'll need to change the file in both System32 and SysWOW64

Right click on the file and go to 'properties'.
Click on the 'security' tab.
Click 'Advanced'.
Click on the 'Owner' tab.
Click 'Edit'.
Select your user and click OK.
Click OK on the next box.
Then OK on the final box.
Click OK to close properties.

Now right click on the file again and go to 'Properties'
Click on the 'security' tab.
Click 'Edit'.
Select 'Users'.
In the bottom part of the box, tick the box to allow 'Full Control'
Click OK then OK again on the last box.

You now own that file and have full permissions over it.

Now simply right click and 'rename' the extension of the file to .BAK
Then paste in your replacement file.
