Hi all,

Just thought I would pass on this valuable info if you are having windows update speed issues in Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.

Below is a link to the answer from German blogger Dalai via Woody Leonard; this sorted my windows update..with patch links to respective versions.
now takes within 2 mins to check and display updates. :D

For what it is worth, I just followed the procedures outlined in the link and then ran 'check for updates.' It has been checking for over an hour.

I experienced the opposite. Ran a manual update check and it completed in less than two minutes. The update KB317775 that was supposed to be needed to speed thing up appears in the list of updates to download and for me pre-installing that update was not necessary.

On another note it has been amazing to see lots of comments from users who assumed that Windows 10 upgrades tied up WU Servers every patch tuesday and expect that with the end of the free upgrade to Windows 10 offer that slow windows updates will be a thing of the past. Personally I never saw any problems with connecting to those servers. I suspect that those users with slow windows update problems will continue to experience the same until they patch their machines manually.
