Hey.

Just got my new computer together and ive encountered a blue screen problem.

everytime i enter a game with catalyst AI on and using more then 1 monitor i get a blue screen.

It works if i take off catalyst AI or remove all monitors

I can run bad company 2 or metro 2033 without catalyst ai on and 3 monitors. But that makes the game lag a little.

So i want to fix it and get catalyst ai on and still use 3 monitors.

My system is as follows:
I7 quad-960 3.2Ghz.
Xfx hd 5970
6gb Dominator dhx+ 1600Mhz
Asus Rampage II Extreme X58
Corsair 750W psu
windows 7 pro 64Bit
X-fi soundcard that came on the Motherboard.

The blue screen code is :

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Stop: 0X000000D1 (0X0000000000000148, 0X000000000000000B, 0X0000000000000000, 0XFFFFF88004B54250)

Atipmdag.sys - Adress FFFFF88004B54250 base at FFFFF880048BF000, Datestamp 4b68f9c4

Ive been looking around for a fix and i found loads of others with similiar problems. But no fix. Thats how i found out i had to remove the other 2 monitors to get it working

Welcome!

I think you already have your answer: Catalyst is causing the problems. Uninstall it, and only install the drivers.

I guess you'll have to wait for a version of Catalyst that doesn't cause problems.

Hope this helps,
~JK

As far as I know, CCC is just a program to change some options and all. I don't think it affects performance any.

Go to AMD ATi website, download both the latest and 1 version before the latest, try both.

Tried 4 different drivers now. Looks like all of them have this problem.

THe catalyst Ai thing that keeps giving me a blue screen is if the card uses 1 or 2 both cores in Crossfire i think. So i can only use 1 gpu core on the card.

Cat9.12 crossfireX eyefinity Hotfix was the last and only driver that properly supported 3 monitor eyefinity with xfire enabled.

GPU42ATICatalyst9.12Hotfix

It says to use this driver in the Cat10.2 release notes. They havn't said in Cat10.3 if the issues had been resolved or not.

Also, run a complete memtest86+ v4 on your memory to verify full stability. Atipmdag.sys is a memory manager and Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL errors can occur with upper corrupt memory.

If it is memory related can it be something as simple as wrong voltage or wrong timings ?

My memory have 8-8-8-24 on the package. But on Cpu-z it says 8-8-8-20

If you can, reduce the last number to 24, see what happens. I have a friend that have 5970, all he does when we meet is just smile ear to ear, saying his GFX card is the best EVER... (he's running 3 monitors). He's most of the time problem free, gaming wise...

When nothing is on (no GFX card, no memory) does it beep like all hell break loose (short continuous beep)? If so, then your mainboard is probably OK, stick 1 RAM on the closest slot to your proc, turn on, see if it beeps like this: beeeeeeep beep beep beep (the first one is a bit longer than the next three). If so, then your mainboard + ram is OK. Lastly, plug the GFX... See if it beeps...

Err... no beeps without memory and GFX means your board is (almost 100%) dead... A working mainboard should beep at least to some pattern.

I plugged it in after i tried without memory or gfx. To see if it was the graphic card.

When i tried without memory and gfx card i heard no beeping at all. But i had alot of error lamps going crazy. when i sat in the memory and started with just memory and no gfx. only one led was going crazy. Then i tried my old 8800gtx card. and the computer started as normal. Then i tried the 5970 again. and nothing happened. So i guess the card has gone AWOL. Hope i dont have to buy a new one now :/

It could be the card was faulty all along. With the 5970 in, check each DVI ports. Boot up with F8 and try Safe Mode. If you can get into safe mode, boot up again with F8 and use Low Resolution Mode 640x480 to try and enter Windows. (You don't get any beeps unless your motherboard has an onboard speaker or you have fitted one). Also, can you still Enter the BIOS with the 5970. The 5970 would still be under the manufacturers warranty and you havn't done anything wrong.
