I've just built a new PC Win 7 64bit, Gigabyte X58A-UD5 with i950. I have logged into Bios settings and set the boot HDD to top. But next time i switch on pc it defaults back to the original HDD settings based on port used (?).

I also get a screen message saying can gigabyte make changes whcih I reject.

How can i stop these two?
Brian

Hi Brian and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Are any other BIOS settings being affected? Is the BIOS clock showing the correct time, or does it reset itself to the same time? Check the motherboard battery.

Hi

This reset from BIOS set boot HDD only seems to apply if the pc is closed down and pwr switched off. No the clock/date is mnatained correct.

BTW I found that the gigabyte message relates to ET6 request to up the memory speed.

Re changing CMOS battery - if battery was faulty then the clock would be wrong yes? Happy to change if still recommended

Not always. There might be enough power in the battery to maintain the clock, but not enough to keep the other settings. It's certainly worth considering changing the battery, especially if it's a few years old.
