My Seagate Barracuda 3TB 7200 is giving me problems. Upon cold boot,I was greeted with "Windows need to CHKDSK for Consistency" ...Mkay,never seen that message before. Let the CHKDSK run it's course...15mins later it seemed to have recovered some files.

Now in Windows,my Intel RSTE is giving me popups with SATA DISK removed, disconnected then detected.

I think my HDD is on it's last legs,I use that drive for storage so it's not a critical SYSTEM DRIVE...thank God.

Also I have SeaTools, will that program help recover the HDD.

PS. Check my other thread,as I forgot to mention in that thread that I was trying to Save/Write data to this dying HDD when my browser became unresponsive. I was trying to save an video using my browser to HDD.http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers-mail/364577-browser-not-responding.html

PPS. Now each time I boot my PC,Windows wants to always check that troublesome HDD for Consistency...I already let the CHKDSK run, like I mentioned earlier in post...I'm not going to wait 15-20 mins each time I boot my PC

Thanks for your time in assisting me with these matters.

Seagate Tools can test the drive, most likely with a quick test or an extended test. I think it will attempt to re-allocate any bad sectors it finds, but it's not going to "repair" an outright failing disk. Disks drop dead with no warning all the time.

I'd be sure I had backups, then run Seagate Tools quick test. If it passes that, try the extended test. If the disk fails either one, I'd order another replacement disk.

You might try another motherboard port or another cable, just on the off chance the drive is OK, but the port or cable are failing.

Thanks for reply ignatzatsonic,I ran SeaTools "FIX ALL LONG" and about 1/3 of way into process/scan the HDD flagged as FAIL.

I am now suggested by SeaTools to use SeaTools DOS,but I don't have any blank media discs available. Is there any alternative programs I could use to "fix" bad sectors in WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT.

Get what data you can off of the drive and scrap it. Fixing bad sectors will only work until the next batch of them comes along. It sounds like the drive is on its last legs.

Yeah...I decided to just unplug the sata and power cable to the problem HDD,I even "extracted" the drive from my case ;) I'll try and salvage what I can from it...

PS. Seems like my PC is getting hit with alot of issues all at once. With that "corrupt" HDD causing alot of issues with my Windows functionality...now with the bad HDD removed,I'll see if I see get the same problems.

PPS. I'd appreciate any tips to ensure my Windows Install is in proper working order. Are there any logs I can forward to you that will be of help. My Event Viewer is pretty HUGE :o

Thanks again for the advice guys.

Mellon's probably correct about your HD. Prices are very reasonable right now. Over the years, I am thankful that my image backups were restorable -- upon the replacement HDs.
