Hdd migration to ssd

i have got a ssd to replace my old hard drive. now i need to know how to transfer my data off the hard drive onto my ssd. i am a total novice at this .but i would like to try. but i need it explained in the simplest ,
terms possible, i have been on several sites that tell me how,but i really dont' understand them.
if anyone could explain (as if to a ten year old)although he would probably understand it.
i would be really grateful.

Is this a desktop or laptop and what is the size of the old hd and the new ssd. The best way is always do a clean install as ssd has settings a nor hd doesnt have

Morning, Samurai. its' a desktop, and the hdd is 500gb .on my main drive (C) i have used 130 gb so is that ok.

How much space is on the SSD?

Use AOMEI Backupper for a clone from your C drive to the SSD.

You can do this in one of two ways.

1) Use an USB to external hard drive (HDD) adapter.

or

2) Plug the SSD into a free SATA port inside your desktop. Make sure you have a long enough SATA cable and a SATA power cable from the power supply (PSU).


Regardless of what option you chose, here's how to conduct the clone.

Open AOMEI on your desktop. Select the clone option.

Select the source as your C drive.

Select the destination as your SSD drive. It may be drive D or E. Looking at it's size will be an indicator.

Select the align partition option.

You don't need to select sector by sector or anything else.

The clone operation should take about 45 minutes to an hour based on what you said you have in data there at 130GB.

I am with F22 just do a clone I use Macrium for mine and one of those adapters or you can disconnect all but the OS drive and plug the new drive into another SATA port (and power supply) and run the clone to that.


After you do that just hook up the newly cloned OS drive after taking out the old one test it and if ok reattach any other storage hard drives and you are done



By the by Macrium is also good for making backups of your system see the tutorial on it plus the home edition is free.

As an extra tip I almost always if I can afford it clone a clean install after the updates have been done toa small SSD and keep it aside for a "rainy day"
