Hi, I have a HP Pavillion dm3 with a broken hard drive, the laptop is in otherwise great condition, I have just purchased an identical laptop that had been upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, however the carcass of the laptop is in poor condition, my question is, can I take the HDD out of this laptop and put it straight into my laptop that has the bad HDD, even tho it worked on windows 7?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I'm not sure why you would want too ?
10 is an oem product it is tied to the machine that was upgraded so even though the manually switching is easy to do you will run into issues eventually with activation.

With your basic thought to replace the hdd is valid just use a new hdd instead of the new machines hdd they are cheap.

Thanks for the advice, but if I was to put in a new HDD with no OS, how would the laptop boot up, the windows back up was partitioned into the failed HDD?
