When you say "connect the HDD", are you referring to an external source or did you connect it internally?

Did you overwrite the Vista installation or did you do a clean install? Are you referring to more than one harrdrive?

I will need some clarification before I can assist you. Maybe someone else will understand and chime in...

So it works on a friend computer but not yours...

I had an external harrdrive that did this and it turned out to be lack of power from the USB port. So, if your external HDD does not have an external powersupply, then switch to a different USB port and prefereably one from the back of the desktop.

We know the drive works fine because it works on your friend computer. Hope this helps.

well now im thinking that my external hdd is causing this because i tried with a different hdd and same error and i cant hear it but i said "what i don't believe it" the hdd i was trying to connect was my laptops this time and the same error i put it back on the laptop and it did boot so my guess is the enclosure and not the hdd but one Q still bugs me when this message of MRB and GPT appears will it format a hdd if select one of them

Is the laptop haddrive SATA or IDE? What I have done before is to connect a laptop hdd to my desktop using one of the internal SATA connections and powersupply from the desktop. Just sort of let the hdd lay just outside the case while you retrieve your data.

"Q still bugs me when this message of MRB and GPT appears will it format a hdd if select one of them" Probably, it will try and could make matters worse.
