i really meant to get back to you much earlier so my apologies for that.i decided to start a new thread(rightly or wrongly)regarding my backup & hdd issues.firstly let me tell you that i checked on my Samsung computer and they have a recovery service called Samsung Recovery5 which can (apparently)back up as much or as little as you want which sounds great.i made a start on this backup with some discs (long story).before burning it gives a message to verify the disc after burn(RECOMMENDED)now it burns the disc(s) reasonably fast but the verify takes about 1-2 hours which is crazy,we are talking more than a 24hr day.do you know if it is safe to by-pass verify.having said all that we cannot proceed because sfc is STILL showing up that files cannot be repaired in spite of the best efforts of your fellow hard workers.can you advise me how to proceed from this point please because your advice is invaluable.thank you.

I have no idea what that Samsung Recovery5 is all about. ( If it only backs up your personal data then that is not the system recovery disk.)

Again for backing up any important personal data you may have on the system drive, you only need to copy them to another external drive. After that you can go ahead with Factory Restore.

.( You brought in McAfee also in one post. Whenever I see McAfee being bundled in a laptop free for 3 months, I immediately remove it lock stock and barrel using McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool.)

What I can see is that you haven't gotten anywhere in correcting your OS problems.

In such cases a factory restore is recommended. As I have already indicated, you have to restore from the Recovery partition or the system recovery disks created as per your user manual or the system Recovery disks that came with the system. If you have any doubts on this, Samsung Tech Support can best advise you rather than a third party like me who knows nothing about your Samsung machine.

After your machine comes clean, we shall take up the HDD RAW problem.
