Hdd Regenerator destroyed my Hard drive . Please Help Me

I am using a 3TB seagate external HD Expansion

Lemme tell u exactly what i did . I downloaded Hard Disk Sintenel and it showed me that i have 16 bad sectors and its health is 74%. I used (HDD regenerator 1.7) and when i started the 'scan and repair' function , an error box appeared that said " Error access violation with some numbers starting with 0x74fec..... " .After that my hard disk is not showing up in "My COMPUTER" , its detected by the computer and the option to remove safely is shown too.



It shows me when i enter Disk Management That Its unallocated and its named as Disk 1 with a black long line and its seperated into two parts 2TB and 700MB . I also by mistake made a new volume which appeared as 2tb in 'My computer' and it was empty (My HD was fully loaded), I was scared so i deleted The volume .



I used partition find and mount but no use , I used Mini Tool Power Data Recovery which recovered for me the second part that i mentioned before which is 700MB .. And it recovered 80% from my Drive but it was Described as RAW , It was not arranged or in specific folders , all the videos where in a folder and all music where in another folder and pictures in another folder . All the files have no Name so i can find what video or music is that specific file. So i need to enter 30,000 files to check what is what .





I am using EaseUS Data Recovery Now and it will take long time to finish , so can u plz help me solve this problem or a program that can recover all my data's but with some sense and specific file name , i dont want Raw files .

I am sorry for this Leanthy thread but I need to say waht i did exactly and what happened exactly , Hopefully someone can help me .

When somebody accidentally did something wrong, it is called a "mistake". You should have stopped at the point where the original partition was accidentally lost. Instead you continued your own and made the issue worse. From my understanding, this is what happened :

1. Your HDD was partitioned to a single 3 TB sized volume. It means the original partition scheme might be GPT.

2. Then you created a single 2 TB partition ( which is a deliberate action - it can't be called a mistake ), the disk might be initialized as MBR causing further damage to the original partition structure.


At this point, chances of a successful partition recovery is very low. However please try the below steps.

1. Continue and finish "Easues Data recovery Wizard" scan. It can recover files with original folder and file structure. Once the scan finishes, recover files if you have another spare drive to store them. Under any circumstances, don't save the files to the the 3 TB disk. If you don't have a spare disk, save the scan result - this will avoid scanning the disk a second time. You can load the saved result and continue recovery at a later point.

2. Download and install "Partition Wizard Home" from the below link.

Now scan for lost partitions as per this guide - How to perform lost partition recovery and deleted partition recovery under Windows? Partition Recovery Help.

After the scan finishes, take a screenshot and post with next reply.

One thing i forgot to ask. By default, creating a new partition via "Disk management" will quick format the partition as NTFS.

So if you where just following the new volume creation wizard without changing default options, the lost 3TB partition's MFT table might be already destroyed and replaced with a new empty one. In that case, recovering the original partition is out of question.

Follow Anshad's plan to attempt Partition Recovery which has had great success here. If no partitions are recoverable you'll need to run data recovery to see if it can find any files needing rescue.

When ready boot the installation media provided and follow these steps to do a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you'll stick with the steps, tools and methods in the tutorial you'll get and keep a perfect install without mistakes like running an unnecessary tool which ruined everything on your HD, or running the worst AV we see here which is MucAfee.

Just to be clear... you're referring to the external drive - correct?

If you have another external drive (there's no space on your internal HD), I would take what can be recovered, even if the names and folders are foobar.

Once your data is copied, you can always try more options for the original data on the external HD.

At least you will have the option to go through 30,000 files. If the disk has bad sectors or the actions you took make other recovery impossible, then the disk might become too far gone to get anything.

I would still think the OP should go ahead with trying to recover partitions with PW Partition Recovery Wizard. What determines successful partition recovery is the presence of a NTFS at the beginning of the partition.

MFT comes into picture only for data .

When a new 2MB partition was created where will be the new MFT reserved space be? Is it going to overwrite the old MFT created by the original 3TB GPT partition?

I have a feeling if Partition wizard is successful in recovering the GPT partitions, the whole drive can be restored and what perhaps the OP will lose is the data that was originally present in the new MFT space written by the 2TB MBR partition. Am I overlooking something? I do not know.

Each case that comes up here is different and unfortunately we also need to experiment with all possibilities. So my vote will be to go ahead with Partition Recovery Wizard and not give up on it..

That depends on OP's luck. If both new and old partitions used the same start sector, there is a 99% chance for old MFT to be already destroyed. If start sectors are different, there is only a chance for partial corruption and CHKDSK might be able to fix that. If i assumed correctly, old partitioning was GPT and now it is initialized as MBR disk - there is still a chance for an undamaged MFT and probably NTFS boot sector too.

I'll agree - if PW Recovery Wizard works, that would be great. The disk still had some reported bad sectors and is suspect in the long run.

Side note: I'm not familiar with Hard Disk Sentinel but I recommend using native Windows utilities for most things. Check Disk in this case.

Definitely try Partition Wizard partition recovery. You mention a RAW partition in your opening post. This means the Master File Table (MFT) no longer exists or is damaged. This requires raw data recovery. At the risk of suggesting yet another piece of software you could at the end of it all try

Once you have all the data you're likely to recover I recommend you use the manufacturer's diagnostic tool

If it comes up with bad sectors you can
1) return the drive if under warranty
2) reformat (GPT) and keep an eye on the health of the drive using
CrystalDiskInfo (I use the portable version)

If the drive has many bad sectors (your judgement call) and especially if they increase over the course of a couple of months then I'd discard the drive.

I have definitely not overlooked the first start sector of the GPT partition and the MBR partition.

In the case of the MBR partitioning by Windows the first start sector (NTFS) will be at LBA 2048. There is no doubt about it.

Where will the first start sector of the factory formatted 3TB drive will be?

In the case of a 750GB Seagate GoFlex external drive (GPT formatted by Windows), I found it to be @ LBA 264192 much much higher than 2048.



(The one shown as 1,_, with LBA 34 is the start of the 128MB Microsoft System Reserved (MSR) space with no file system.)

@ Anshad Edavana, if you can lay your hand on a factory formatted 3TB Seagate external drive - I do not have a more than 2TB drive - and post a screenshot like the one above taken with Bootice, it will serve as a template for all our present and future needs, for we see more and more people getting into this sort of a problem formatting with MBR and showing the last 700GB/rest of 2.2TB or so as unallocated.

For the present I am assuming the GPT NTFS start sector is way above LBA 2048 and therefore it - the NTFS - will still be intact in the case of the OP here.

In a GPT disk, usually LBA 34 will be the first usable sector. In that disk starting sector is 264192 so there is an unusual number of 264158 sectors (128 MB) gap between first usable sector and starting sector of first partition ( space for MSR partition ? ). If OP's disk also had a similar structure, there is a great chance for successful recovery.

I don't have any large disk to check and confirm. But when i performed some tests on a virtual machine, "Disk Management" created first partition starting at LBA 2048 on both MBR and GPT disks. The behavior might be different in case of large capacity disks.

Yes, LBA 34 is the start of the 128 MB MSR and so ends at 264191.

If the factory formatted GPT disks also follow the Microsoft specification of 128MB MSR preceding the first start of partition, then in that case the first partition will be at LBA 264192.

I have seen that most GPT-aware partitioning software (like AOMEI) do create this 128MB MSR at LBA 34 even in case of external drives.

Whatever, let the OP run the PW Partition Recovery Wizard and not skip it. Let us see what is in store.
