I've just replaced the old VGA cable with an HDMI and the display is slightly smaller than before.

The system is a Dell Inspiron 580 with an ATI Radeon HD 5450 1Gb graphics card.
The monitor is a Dell ST 2310 (1920x1080).

I've tried updating the adapter driver but Windows reports that the best driver is already installed.

What do you mean by "smaller"? Is the text and icons look smaller now compared to before? If so, probably the monitor is running at it's native resolution compared to when you hook it up using VGA... If you can, provide a screenshot...

By smaller, I mean the display doesn't fill the available space, I'm losing 1—1.5cm all round. I've tried the Dell diagnostics, restored the monitor's factory settings and checked for driver updates, but to no avail.

Check your monitor's scaling feature (if it has one), or in Catalyst Control Center, there should be an option about scaling, play with it. If that doesn't fix your problem, look in CCC, an option about "overscan".

As suggested, Open the Catalyst Control Center, then select "Scaling Options", then set "Overscan" to 0%. A Guy

Hello,

I am having the same "overscan" issue, but an nVidia card and I can't seem to find where to correct it in the nVidia Control Panel. Any suggestions?

Thanks both of you, that worked a treat!

The tweak does seem to be hidden away in CCC but I got there in the end. :D

@ebarn in Nvidia control panel their is an adjustment for control size and position. I don't know if this will help, also what resolution are you running at? Thanks. Fabe

How is the 5450 card? Does it play all the games well? I'm getting a Dell soon and I think it will have the same card so wanted to know about it's performance..
