Solved HDMI Input: No Input Signal -- Monitor Going to Sleep

Windows automatically updated last night before shutting down. When I turned on the computer this morning, the HP w2207h monitor was not functioning properly. Each time I rebooted, I received the message "HDMI Input: No Input Signal" before the monitor went to sleep.

I do not believe it is a problem with the sleep and display settings as I have dual monitors and the EN9910 is functioning properly; both are set to NEVER anyway. Further, I have plugged our SONY television into the HDMI port and it works just fine.

I have also plugged the monitor into another computer, using the same cable, and both worked just fine. The hp monitor also functions in the utility mode. Problem seems to exist only when Starting Windows.

This has happened once before with a Windows Update, but I don't recall the solution.

Hello and welcome aspen can you just make sure the driver for that monitor is ok.

But mate I also think you may have answered it yourself in another way. Can you remember when this started happening? If so system restore back to before that date.

Then it is just a matter of downloading any updates if this is what is - one or two at a time until you find which one is the culprit. Make a not of that one and each time it comes up untick it to download / install.

I have attempted to re-install the driver several times now, but always receive the message, "Access is denied." Suggestions?

Also, System Restore has not helped.

Mate have you run any malware scans? If not then best try some and what have you got in the way of security on the machine? There have been a couple of problems just recently involving Malwarebytes Pro real time software not with video but sound. But I am curious as to what you have got.

I am running Norton AntiVirus.

Disk check and System File Checker are complete. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

A quick scan on MalwareBytes found 5 infections...all removed. SUPERAntiSpyware found 179 tracking cookies only...all removed.

Monitor still not functioning in Windows only.

So you have two monitors - can you see anything wrong in the Device Manager against the HP monitor when you open out Monitors any coloured symbols by it like yellow triangles for example?.

No, the status indicates the device is working properly. In fact, the monitor works throughout the entire boot process. It is only when Windows starts that I receive the message, HDMI Input: No Input Signal, and the monitor goes to sleep.

Mate it has got to be in the power settings maybe try resetting the power settings to go off - reboot see what happens if that works then go back and reset them to what you want and reboot again.

Wouldn't both monitors be going to sleep then, not just one?

I have tried setting the sleep and display settings to NEVER, rebooting, changing the settings again, and rebooting again. No luck.

You did say at the beginning you were using HDMI for one of the monitors and the other one was plugged into what?

What I am thinking is does the monitor that is ok (EN9910) work off both of the ports you have been using - the HDMI one and the non HDMI one?

I am assuming that you are therefore using a DVI connection?

I am using a DVI connection for the Envision monitor; it does not have HDMI. Our SONY TV works off the HDMI connection without going to sleep, though.

Ok so I have got it completely right the EN works DVI only and the HDMI is used for either the TV or the HP but for some reason the HDMI is not functioning when the HP is used .

So this really points to a driver for the HP but if you have done all that then it has to be something else blocking that signal to the HP. Does the HP have a DVI connection? I would be very surprised if it hasn't lets try the HP hooked up via the DVI with nothing else hooked up just the HP if this doesn't work then it means the HP is being blocked out by something in the machine because both of the other devices are being fed ok.

Anyway try the DVI connection first if that works ok.

This is what I know..

a) the driver is ok for the HP (the monitor is fully functional when hooked up to the computer via the DVI),
b) the HDMI port is functional on the computer (the SONY television works just fine with HDMI connection), and
c) the HDMI cable is functional.

Maybe it's the HDMI port on the HP that's failing? Do you think an HDMI-to-DVI adapter might work??? It's just strange that the HP works fine with HDMI during the bootup process, but then stops when Windows starts.

Worth a try aspen and it is always a good spare for emergencies anyway.

What annoys me is that the HDMI plug / socket system is not made really well - by that I mean a bit on the flimsy side at least the old AVG and the DVI stuff have some decent hardware for the fixings.

Am real pleased it worked mate the quality is not so good but hey you would have to look real hard to notice in all honesty.

So I ma guessing that the HDMI socket is defunct though I am a little surprised that there was no DVI socket but it works thats the main thing. Id it is really important then maybe when the funds are up a new device eh?
