im already fully converted to HDMI

just wish other companies would cater for people like me.. i have 6 HDMI devices in my cinema room, but only 4 plugs on my HD receiver to plug them into... dont want the back of my tv to go back to scard days where i had switch after converter after switch, with 101 leads lol

My whole family is converting to HDMI, only a few devices still use analong signals.

Well it wil be nice when everyone is on board AND has gotten through the teething, but it's still quite a mess.

My cable box has HDMI but it is completely useless. The auto negotioation on establishing a "trusted path" on HDMI can take FOREVER and every single channel change has to renegotiate. On non HD channel it takes about 3 seconds (way too long) but can take 10-15 seconds on HD channels.

I've spend forever programming fixed resolutions into the TV the switcher and the cable box to try to reduce the number of queries and tests done but it hasn't helped much. So for the time being it's analog component from the cable box to tv and HDMI from everything else (What a PITA)

That's my one real show stopper but getting all the HDMI stuff from different ages, versions and resolutions to play nice together is still a big hassle requiring setting dip switches and programming outputs on all equipment Then, just as everything is sort of standardising on 1080P, we now have a new version with higher resolutions which will require rebuying expensive switches all over again for the very first new piece of equipment you hook up :/

So yeah, one cable for audio and video? A+ But the entire HDMI debacle in actual use? D-

Because the DVD player is not HD quality to begin with. Garbage in garbage out. Keep that in mind.

Now...I'm actually planning to move to DisplayPort for all computer related stuff. Leaving HDMI for multimedia stuff.

you can get a box which will Switch HDMI sources to a different output so plug this box into your TV and the extra HDMI cables into the box and then just switch the source HDMI control on the box for your Input on the TV.

I've only 2 HDMI inputs on the TV -- but I have several laptops etc.

The BOX is perfect. 4 Port HDMI switcher WITH REMOTE for lazy mugginses like me !!!!

I see you are in the UK -- try one of these --it also has a remote.
I use this back home as well (need to use a mains adaptor plug as we have continental type plugs but no probs).

Here, we're still stuck with analog because we aren't suscribe to HD channels. Why aren't we suscribed to HD channel. The answer is obvious. We still don't have a flat HD display. My computer is on HDMI though... that's the only thing in the house. My mom's computer is on DVI. The monitor is hosted on my old GeForce 8500GT

For my father, he's pretty much on HDMI. TV Receiver is on HDMI, XBox 360 is on HDMI, PS3 is on HDMI...

For my friend though... it's FAR from being on HDMI. He has like 3 VCRs, 2 DVD players (and one is a recorder), tons of video games consoles... the only things that are HDMI in his room is the TV receiver and his PS3. His mother is the only one with a TV having HDMI and the TV receiver is still not on HDMI... they don't buy one coz it's expensive. Oh, and, my friend's computer is on VGA.

As far as I know, the rest of my friends and family is on analog. AS FAR AS I KNOW.

So, here, the transition to digital with HDMI is FAR from complete. And, for most of them, if ever asked, will say "Why would I change? If it works, I'm happy". Myself included. If I ever purchase something that is on HDMI and/or Display Port, good... otherwise, meh. No will to change.

Taking into consideration the fact that HDMI is pretty much THE ONLY digital interface for HDTV(except for DVI which is computer interface and officially doesn't carry sound), that analog interface is inferior to digital for many reasons that I won't go into here, so pretty much consumers have no choice, so yeah biiiiig deal, yawn.
Anyhow, besides all that HDMI is as bad as it could be: Very flimsy connector with no support to carry the weight of heavy cables, on my older TV HDMI connector broke within about 1-2 years, I had to rely on remaining DVI and analog connectors to get me by. It had compatibility issues with HDCP, I had often handshake issues with screen going blank for few seconds, for past 4 years, until I got new TV, so far so good. Despite the fact the HDMI standard supports up to 1080p@120Hz since ver 1.3, about 5-6 yrs ago? no hardware supports it until now. It even has some major issues with 1080p60Hz and sound: in this case the chroma is cut from 444 to 422, non issue for TV programs, but really a problem if you want to use computer. I could go on, but the fact is HDMI was mainly developed for HDCP, copy protection was the main driver behind development of HDMI and it shows. So let's just say besides forcing HDCP onto everybody, there is nothing else they should be proud of and I'm sure that's perfectly fine with them. I just won't be cheerleading this poor design, based on DVI anyhow.

New HDMI standard ... cool.

Our home theater is all HDMI, my Mac mini uses HDMI, and so does my Xbox 360.

Most of my favorite music cassettes I have replaced with CDs.

Have purchased many standard-def DVDs as well as a few Blu-rays, but I still need to upgrade some old movies on VHS that we have.

This moving up to the next best thing never ends.

Let's see, I still have a VCR in the basement in my home office hooked up to a little TV. Both '90s technology. Wonder how long they'll last?
