HDMI Video Quality w HDTV

Hi,

I am using a Radeon 4850 with a Samsung LN32A650 HDTV @ 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz. Wind 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I have used both HDMI and VGA to connect using 9.1 CCC drivers as well as 8.9 CCC

VGA has excellent quality but does not work with 9.1 drivers

HDMI using both sets of drivers have text which has color fringing and in general,much inferior quality.

Can anybody point me to a solution for this.

I have tried the following:

Different HDMI cables
Different HDTV - Pioneer Elite 60"

I do not think this is a purely Windows 7 issue but I am hoping somebody may have a solution.

A quick Google came up with people reporting same problems with samsung TVs. Are you connecting directly to the TV using HDMI? I have a different TV and card using latest Cats but I pass-through a Yamaha HTR6230B do you have a HDMI capable receiver you could pass-through?

I will test by connecting straight to TV and check the image quality...

9.10's are what i am using... No loss of quality just vid/aud sync problems but that is because I kept the optical in the receiver.

Working OK on my 32" Westinghouse connected via HDMI. Only thing I had to do was lower the resolution to 1280x720 (was getting the flickering lines along the bottom and right edges) and enable the overscan option to bring it back to full screen, and it works and looks great. In fact,

I should add that my TV is native 720p... so maybe its an ATI-1080p problem

Tried the Cat 9.10 yet? This is from the release notes,

• Underscan/Overscan settings for TV can now be applied from the ATI Catalyst ControlCenter – TV Properties Adjustments page​
• Changes to the “All Settings” and “Basic Quality” pages in ATI Catalyst Control Center -Avivo™ Video will now be retained after reboot​

If either of those are what are causing the problem for you, it looks like it has been fixed.

My friend has problems with using HDMI on his Samsung TV. He had a 4650 and connected via HDMI with that and had problems with the quality with it. Tried an Nvidia 9600 and had the same problems. Both of us tried just about every setting possible in CCC and Nvidia control panel and nothing seemed to work.

Could possibly be a problem on the samsung end...both stormy and myself seem to have no problems with our ATI's and respective TVs... will look into it more

my Westinghouse works flawlessly.
Also, i ALWAYS have a sound lag with my ATI cards in my system with sound via HDMI. I just install the ATI HDMI drivers from Realtek, and its all fixed.

9.10 works with my Samsung with HDMI, but it has not so good video quality.

It does not work with VGA conncection.

I have tried a temporary workaround as suggested by one of the other members - I have installed 8.9 (driver only) on my machine - I tell Windows 7 not to update the driver(otherwise it will install a newer driver thus screwing up VGA connection)

With 8.9 HDMI and VGA both work, but the video quality and video size (only covers 2/3 of screen) is much worse with HDMI.

I would like to use HDMI but because of the video quality issue, looks like I have to use VGA for now.

Can anybody point me to a solution? I would really like to be able to use the HDMI input.
