Heavy distortion from speakers.

I've been having this problem ever since I installed Windows 7 onto my machine to upgrade from Vista.

The speakers produce heavily distorted audio and I have been unable to fix it at all.
I have a Realtek Integrated HD Audio sound card, but installing the drivers will not overwrite the stock Microsoft drivers.

I cannot figure out how to fix this issue and I am beginning to think that Windows 7 just has issues which nobody's bothered to address.

I would appreciate any help.

Do you get the distortion if you plug in headphones?

It's not a "Windows 7" problem. If it was everyone would be having the problem.

try removing the microsoft drivers first, by deleting them in device manager, before installing the realtek drivers.

Crackle comes through headphones, too. Provided they're standard stereo plugs and not USB.

The driver installed itself when I installed Windows 7.

What i found, before installing Win 7 you have to disable onboard sound in bios, then install Win 7 then chipset drivers then video drivers then sound drivers all in that order and it will probably cure your crackleing problem
