HELP! 64 bit install fails. 32 bit OK...?

I tried 3 times to install from the 64 bit disk (full version arrived from Amazon on time...) and each time it seemed to go well but froze at "Welcome" screen. I waited more than an hour each time, to no avail. The system would not respond to anything except power off. Each time the restart dumped me back into the install process.

I tried the 32 bit disk. Worked first time. Clean as a whistle.

Now I don't know whether to stick with the 32 bit install but would be keen to get 64 bit working if poss...

The MSFT advisory didn't flag any issues with W7 for me.

Dell Latitude 2.3 GHz dual core CPU
4GB RAM
500GB WD HDD
ATI Radeon X1270

Any tips on getting 64 bit working welcomed, before I accept that I am doomed to stay 32 bit !!!

You might try copying the files on the DVD to a spare partition/drive and run setup.exe from there... let us know how it goes... Also, remove all but one stick of memory when attempting to install...

Is your computer 64 bit compliant?

Did you leave enough room in your partition for 64 bit install? It requires more than 32.

I know in my case, it is sometimes the simple obvious things that I am doing wrong.
