Hello!

I have following problem: I've got decent hardware (gf 8600gt) to run aero, but each time I log in it executes normally and just after a short while the screen flashes 3 times and then the aero is gone, dwm.exe terminates for good! i've tried using standard windows drivers, forceware for win7 and forceware for vista, nothing helps.

i've been trying to use command line to reset the dwm, but each time it just terminated after one second.

i have searched almost everywhere and still got no clue about this.

Zen, try /scf scannow to repair bad DLL files.

If that doesn't work, try a Repair Install.

Hi zen and welcome to Se7en Forums

Have you performed a WEI assessment yet? From the limited specs you have provided in your post, i.e. your graphics card, you should be capable of running Aero (please fill in the rest of your specs). Do you lose your Aero EVERYTIME you boot up, or only when certain applications are running? If it's everytime, then check your startup programs. One or more might not be compatible with the Aero interface, so they will force your system to disable it.

Well, I've run the WEI test alredy and got 4,5. I loose the interface EVERY single time the system is supposed to execute it, every bootup, just got to wait a second.
I've earlier checked both startup (only graphic drivers for 7 and security) and services compatibility and to get rid of possible unnecessary things, and everything seems to be fine, since I've only installed the most basic things.
Now I'll try what Lordbob suggested...

i had this same issue... i had to rerun the WEI a few times after initial RC install, it kept wanting to install something, on a few boots, not the same thing, it was installing new things like usbroot hub stuff and mass storage etc, but i never could explain why THAT beyond changing any kind of hardware, would it want or need to rerun the WEI. I came back from running it the first time, and i think thats when (afterwards) windows installed found peripheal hardware,( besides sound nic camera and graphics -all were already installed). I noticed aero gone (which to add after initial install and desktop logon, i didnt have aero by default, wasnt the case in 7000) again, so i ran the WEI again.

Knock on wood, i havent had it do anything like that again. But there does seem to be somekind of overall issue with it.

this dealt with a mobility x1600 by the way with 7 assigned drivers.

not exactly the same problem but i installed the x86 on my mrs old laptop an acer 3660 it was running windows media centre edition its strange in the fact it boots up starts the desktop and then like yours flashes three times although heres where it differs aero is still enabled but the icons on the taskbar are wrong.
when i mean wrong i mean totally wrong calculator appears there and its not supposed to be and if u click it it opens IE,if u click the IE icon it opens up the libraries.
i deleted the icon cache and rebooted and its been ok so far (only a day mind).
