Help Black Screen

i need some help , my Toshiba laptop screen stays black, my laptop turns on but the screen stays black, I have tried many steps and none has proved, I wonder if it has to do with a cable or is the screen that needs to be replaced. i will thanks any help please.

Try connecting an external monitor to your laptop. If it works, most likely your screen is bad. If the external monitor remains black you have bigger problems.

If Bumpkin's method proves it's the screen and not display adapter then you can sometimes reinstall a loosened screen cable by googling how this is done on your exact model. If not you can replace the screen yourself to save some of the expense.

Please post the model number of your Toshiba. You can find this on the bottom of your computer on a silver colored tag.

If you are certain the VGA monitor is connected snugly and powered up and still has no signal whatsoever, nor does the laptop screen, then I would see if a cable has come loose or replace the laptop screen. There are many options given googling "replace screen Toshiba Satellite L655D-S5055."
