Help! Can't access files

I've got a new PC running Windows 7 Home 64-bit. It works well and I'm very pleased.

I've just tried importing my Outlook.pst file from my old computer (ran Win XP Pro) which died (partition got partially deleted). I've managed to access it using "Find and Mount" which will display the partition as a drive in My Computer and I can access all files bar those in "Documents & Settings" which it comes up saying I don't have permisson to access.

I've tried to take ownership of these files, however I get an error saying "The media is write protected". Is there anything I can do to recover the files?

Sounds like you still have the option to 'copy' the .pst file out of the mounted drive and paste it to your local C:\ or Data drives. can you try that?

Unfortunately not.....I can't open the folder to get to the file as it comes up with "You don't currently have permission to access this folder".

Download *MBRFix.exe*

MBR Fix - Fix MBR problems

to your User folder
- Boot the machine
- Start | All Programs | Accessories-
- Right-click on *Command Prompt*
- Choose -"Run as administrator"-
- Choose -"Allow"- from the UAC popup box (if UAC is enabled)
- At the *C:\Users\your name\ prompt,

type

MBRFix /drive {drive number} fixmbr /yes


- Repeat the command for however many drives are infected/write
protected

( "Infected" because some AV programs also prevent access).
