Hello

I find it difficult choosing a motherboard on my own for some reason? anyway....

I need to replace my current motherboard:cry:, was thinking of just buying the same one or same series(apparently the 8 series is better?) but pricing is pretty much the same as the new 9th series gigabyte motherboard(MB). I wanted something similar or better.

I've narrowed it down to two but please also tell me your recommendations! (gigabyte MB's only)

I'm leaning towards the ud5h, it doesnt cost that much more than the ud3h on amazon but both boards seem similar!?

I've never changed MB's before and need to know some stuff:
  • will windows 7 still work as normal? will count as genuine software?
  • after installing new MB, what will happen to the old MB drivers? will it cause any issues? do I uninstall old drivers then install new ones(new MB connected)
  • is it just a case of change MB and a way you go

Hopefully this makes sense as I am half a sleep

Thanks in advanced

Hi,
Yep mobo hunting is fun stuff
You will need another oem or system builders disk for win-7 sp1 because the prior one is stuck to the old mobo
Unless you have a retail win-7 which a retail copy would cost somewhere around 400.us and is the only one that is transferable to another machine or mobo.

I have the retail copy of windows 7! Does that mean I need to reinstall it? Do I need to repartition my other drives aswell?

Just reinstall windows to the same partition, you don`t have to touch any others.

I'm not a big fan of cloning but as long as you have a retail copy why not give it a shot :)

Will do that addram

Yeah me to I prefer doing fresh installs but because I've never changed a MB I just thought you uninstall old drivers and install new ones :p
I decided to get the gigabyte z97x ud5h and I thought, I would buy a new case(was going to be my next upgrade). Then I would not have to connect everything all over again! Save me some trouble (at a cost)
