Since this is a Windows 8.1 problem, we have a separate forum for Windows 8.

Check the Recycle Bin. Any deleted folder will still be there until it is emptied.

Are you saying you moved the folder in question? The tutorial you reference shows how to restore default location if you move the User folder.

How did you delete a User folder? It is a System File.

Recuva is pretty useless. I never had any luck with it. If you have restore points, try shadow explorer. That is a sure way to recover.

I asked you to check the Recycle Bin. Did you?

Exactly how did your friend delete User folder?

Try Shadow Explorer now.

Please answer in full sentences addressing each of our suggestions.

@gregrocker
yes. i checked the recycle bin, that was the first thing i did, but my friend said a box apeared saying it was too big for the recycle bin. he deleted it by going into c:users/myname then deleting it from in there. i have tried shadow explorer and it doesnt seem to load, i select my drive and nothing happens, tried re-installing and leaving it but nothing happens.

What do you mean you tried reinstalling? Did you reset the User folder to defaults? Reinstall the OS?

Are you sure your friend didn't just delete a bunch of files from a User folder? What makes you think it was moved first?

If Shadow Explorer hangs then try the same date System Restore point, if necessary from http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html on the Win7 disk or http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/51100-repair-cd-system-repair-disk.html.

If your Win7 is corrupt as it would appear if its hanging this way, then go over the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/220165-troubleshooting-steps-windows-7-a.html particularly the System File Checker, establishing a Clean Boot, comb logs to resolve repeat errors, use System Resources to check for Problems and Solutions, consider a Repair Install.

But If you've not had one, I would strongly consider doing a perfect http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 which compiles the best possible install of Win7 one can have. Then to keep it that way stick with only the tools and methods given in the tutorial.
