Help Diagnosing Computer: 0xc00000e9 W7-64 bit

So I've been having issues with my computer, initially it was loading to the windows screen and would say "starting windows"(where the icon would normally swarm in and present itself). It would stop here with just the words at the bottom. One night it stayed on all night, which I eventually woke up and checked what was going on and it was stuck at a black screen. I tried restarting multiple times and it would go to a completely black screen(no mouse). Eventually I went into BIOS and selected "use fail safe defaults". This seemed to have fixed my problem... until I went to open a program and it took react very slowly with the program constantly "not responding". I decided to restart my computer. Now it will come up with either the black screen, or if I get it to to "launch" it says it is missing hardware item and lists 0xc00000e9 as the error code. Has my hard drive or memory died? I need help before I replace the wrong items entirely... I've tried reloading windows 7 multiple times now and it continues to give the same error. Thank you for the words of wisdom.

Scouting around, i find that the generated error code indicates a "failing hardware". To start off, first check the health of the HDD by using ADM(Acronis Disk Monitor) which can check a HDD of any manufacturer. Download, run and kindly get back with the results: Download disk imaging utilities, data backup and recovery tools, HDD managers and multibooting software for home PCs

I would go for memtest also to rule out faulty RAM.

NT Exception error 0xc00000e9 = STATUS_UNEXPECTED_IO_ERROR

Start with HDD diagnostics.

I prefer SeaTools for DOS LONG test -

But Acronis as suggested by sreedhav will do just fine.

I put in my old 250gb hdd and it seems to have fixed the problems I had... Thanks for the ideas however I tried it before you guys had posted up! Thanks again for the responses though.

In that case it was likely your HD. I would test it to be sure before using again.
