When I start windows it comes to a black screen saying (roughly)

error cannot read disk volume C:
windows will check to see if it can be read
check will go ahead unless you press any button in 10 seconds
you can skip check but it isn't recommended

everytime I leave it and it adds to the bottom of the writing (roughly) saying cannot read disk C
and without using correct terminology says that i must restart my computer from scratch. but then the black screen disappears and windows starts usually?

please help!

Welcome!

Have you tried letting the scan run? Usually if you let it complete, it won't appear next time.

Can you boot from the dvd? if so you can do a repair install. It is either an OS problem or a HD problem.
