Hi,
I am using windows 7. i have upgraded from vista recently.
My internet connection has been cutting out infrequently over the past month, but now it has cut out completely. windows is detecting the problem as a either a faulty ethernet cable or as a cable not being connected.
I have tried;
  • changing the cable
  • unplugging/plugging back in
  • unplugging/restarting/plugging back in
  • disabling/re-enabling the device
i am connecting using 'Realtek PCle Family Controller'
The modem is a D-link

Very appreciative of any help on the matter

First, update your drivers. Either thru your driver CD or by downloading the latest and copying and installing using a USB.
If all done and still issue, check in your DM whether the network adapter has no issue.

Device Manager. BTW, When you connect the cable, wat does the network indicator say?? A red cross mark???

What about the lights in your Modem? All Lit?

If you have a spare desktop or laptop, can you check whether the network line from Modem works??

all the lights are lit on the modem. Internet is working on another desktop and on a laptop.

You say other computers work - can I assume then you have a Router? Ports can go bad. Try another port. If it works in another port, it may be totally bad, or just needing a router reset (power cycle for 10 seconds or so).

Hazza, Welcome to SevenForums.
This sounds like a driver problem to me however if you have tried replacing your Network adapter drivers with no help and need a quick fix without opening up you computer then you may like to try a usb adapter. The network cable plugs into it and it goes into a usb port. I keep one around in case a nic card goes bad. Good luck to you with your problem.
