Solved Help evaluating two Wireless Adapters

Oh, I hope I am in the right place.

I need to be educated on this subject.

I signed up for a new service with my ISP. No matter what they call it, it is AT&T's Uverse. They supply the gateway for $6.50 a month and I can spit farther than the gateway can reach.

So I have taken a look at a couple of Wireless Adapters and the results are the same for ping, download speed and up load speed although there is a considerable difference in price.

Now to my question --although I am not familiar with the terms but there is a difference in the percentage that the adapter gives to the signal. The more costly one receives at 90% and the lower cost one is 74%.

Is that good enough to be worth $15 more? Are those percentage numbers really that important?

Hello Jadin I don't know about the stuff you get in the US but out here there are just choices of plans etc and a lot of folks like myself go with the national carrier Telstra for broadband because mainly they give the best coverage (government owned so obviously) and one just pays for either the copper or a wifi adaptor - prepaid. In any case still quite expensive as they have the infrastructure.
Now I did some looking and found this

it might help you track down something and this California Internet Service Providers - Compare Broadband Speeds | Speedtest.net again just a guide and I suppose a lot depends on your budget of course.

I'm locked into this plan for a year and can't get out of it so I have to find hardware that does a better job of picking up the signal from the modem/router.

No probs it is hard to find a decent pick hardware and out here I just use the Telstra wifi modems mind you most of what I can get is 3G and the 4G device I bought drops back to 3G in a lot of areas because the broadband service out is really quite woeful if you don't live in one of the bigger towns or cities.
The previous government were rolling out optical but it was scotched by the incoming mob
I had a look for adaptors in the US and came up with a few including this Networking USB Wi-Fi Adapters and Dongles | eBay

Mine has more than enough range for it to be somewhere else in the house it is just making sure the battery doesn't go flat and leave you dead in the water.
I pay $200 for 1 year and / or 12GB data whichever comes first see this

Personally I prefer the adaptor separate form the machine as opposed to a dongle which clutters a USB port.

Actually Joe I do that sometimes and I do that with posts on the forum and sometimes with emails where the message goes is anyone's guess.

Well at least I hope it has given you a few options because away from home it is the only option I have. I am not real overly keen on using them as my Kaspersky keeps telling me the connection is not secure, but I am banking on the security picking up the rubbish and malware as I browse. I have been trying to figure out how to set the security - all the WPA stuff Wi-Fi Protected Access - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia as I have my land line modem set up with the WPA-PSK security and it is a long time ago I did it so have got to start from scratch:huh:
