I have or had a cable that opened up a USB port on my car radio but lost the cable. I was going to just make one but wanted to ask around before I did that. Really thought it was more common or I would have made very sure not to lose it.

I have had a quick look on the web & it seems that motor cycle shops might be able to help as BMW & other Continental MC's use DIN plugs to USB out cables for charging mobile phones etc.. So that might be worth checking out.

Funny you say that. I did go through the motorcycle searching also but those use the 6pin mini din connection, this is an 8 pin. I think I'm just going to have to make one from scratch.

Yes, it looks like you might have to make one. It really is a pity there is not a standard format for some plugs & sockets, but that's only wishful thinking.

A word of caution before you make a cable yourself... make sure that it really is just a passive cable and that the original didn't have embedded electronics that served as an interface of some kind.

These days a "fat plug" can hide some sophisticated hardware inside :geek:

I have no idea. That picture was the exact cable I had. The company seems to have disappeared though.

now I have no idea what pins to what also. I just ordered a mini 8 pin from parts express.

The picture is blocked by my employer's "Web Nanny."

I'll have a look when I get home :)
