Your CPU will bottleneck any decent GPU, and without knowing your PSU limits or budget it's pointless recommending a card.

I'd get a new CPU first and then consider a new GPU

He already said no an i5 won't work in your motherboard. Your motherboard will support an Intel Core2 Quad processor with an LGA775 socket type.

Radeon HD7870. No idea if your PSU is strong enough to support it though.

ok if u want to buy a GPU, you are going to have to buy 4 things...

1) RAM (if yours does not fit in the new mobo or is not supported)
2) MOBO
3) CPU
4) PSU

if ur not OCing and dpnt plan on it, an i5 @3.2 GHz (base clock) quad core should be enough. idealy u want i5 3570k if budget allows.

for the mobo, get a mobo of GOOD quality that supports LGA2011 socket for 3rd gen i5 sandy bridge

for the gpu, get what ever one u can afford. (gtx 760, R9 280x, 7950, gtx 660, etc)

for the PSU u should get a 500W minium. I would look at the Corsair CX500
