Help, I can't login, user profile can't be loaded

Following : Move the Users Directory in Windows 7 I foolishly attempted to move my Users directory from the Win7 drive to another partition. This sounded great in theory.

After rebooting, I cannot login to Windows. When I try to logon with my username and password, I get this error:

"The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

Other than a complete reinstall, what else can I do to logon? Can I create a new account in Safe mode and use that or something like that? I tried a Windows restore, but that failed

Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, I tried those steps out and no luck. My problem is that the entire Users folder is gone. On top of that, when I login with the built in Administrator account, I get this error (see screen) View image: profile error.png

Do I have to reinstall Windows to fix this?

I ended up doing a full reinstall. Funny enough, I had just installed Win 7 yesterday. That makes 2 Win installs in 24 hrs

Once it is running the way you like, make a system image on an External Hard Drive. You will never have to activate or reinstall, again. Make the image after activation and your programs are installed. Good Luck.

That sounds like a fine idea. I have never made a system image before. Would you mind giving me some pointers, app, some steps to get the process going?

Stick the image from Windows on an external HDD, and stash it somewhere safe.
