help i have a windows 7 64 bit won't play audio for mp4

Computers are difficult for me to understand! Every problem I have with them is excruciating! I need so clear, practical help with videos I import from my samsung cell phone that USED TO HAVE SOUND ON MY OLD DELL PC XP NOW DON'T HAVE ANY SOUND ON MY NEW TOHSIBA WINDOWS 7 PRIMIUM (YEAH RIGHT!) HOME VERSION WITH WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER 12! FROM WHAT I HAVE MANAGED TO STUBBLE ACROSS over the last several days IT IS A CODEC I NEED TO DOWNLOAD IN ORDER TO GET THE SOUND TO PLAY ON MY VIDIEOS THAT ARE IN MP4 FORMAT!!!! I MEAN THIS IS so frustrating can anyone be decent enough to tell me where I can safely down load this!? please excuse caps i get yelled at all the time about that but my typing is awful!

There are compatibility issues with WMP 12 in respect of MP4 codecs.

I'd be inclined to download Quicktime and use that instead.

oops I have typing issues i think some how i lost my post so i will start over.

in the past i have had so many problems with my last computer my dell xp and the media player on that one that i think i down loaded quick time or it may have been the previous NOW DISCONTINUED ONE AND I CAN'T THINK OF THE NAME OF IT NOW BUT THEN IT STOPPED AND THEN QUICK TIME OR REAL TIME CAME IN AND THE WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER I HAD WAS MESSED UP AND THEY SEEMED TO CONSTANTLY CAUSE CONFLICTS (REGARDING DEFAULTS ETC.) SO I HESITATE TO START THAT OVER AGAIN. I FIND WINDOW ANYTHING IS SUCH A PAIN. YOU WOULD THINK WITH ALL THE EMPLOYEES THEY HAVE THEY COULD FIX THESE PROBLEMS OR MAYBE THEY JUST DON'T CARE!

Just recently I installed the new internet explorer 9 and that caused so many problems i have uninstalled it and my graphics are much improved. you would think that micro soft would test these updates for 64 bit and even with the 64 bit i don't think it solved the problem. THEY PAY THEIR EMPLOYEES A LOT OF MONEY AND I THINK THEIR QUALITY AND INTEGRITY IS IN THE TOILET!

ANY WAYS I AM LOOKING FOR A CODEC FOR MP4'S AND I GOOGLED THAT AND GOT A LOT OF LINKS TO FREE CODEC SITES BUT NOT SURE HOW SAFE AND EFFECTIVE THEY ARE.

THANKS I WILL THINK ABOUT YOUR SUGGESTION. IF YOU COME UP WITH ANY OTHER SOLUTIONS LET ME KNOW

Uninstall if you don't like it then you can reset your file associations under Start>Default Programs.

Instead of having a rant at Microsoft, just calm down, hit the F1 key and you'll get loads of help for your computer.

So I hit f1 and then searched codec for mp4 and up comes this and it says windows media supports mp 4! so now what? any suggestions. please help
