Help Installing RTM 7600 from version 7100. LOOOK

Hii all,

I recently downloaded and installed the Windows 7 (7100 Beta Version) onto my computer off the Microsoft site. Only to realize that the new version (7600) was already available on torrent sites etc. Which i promptly downloaded.

I have not partioned my hard drive when i first installed Windows 7, previously upgrading from Vista.

Anyway, I extracted the .iso files into a folder in my documents and ran the install file for 7600. Only to when i reached the stage of 'checking for compatability' (just before installing), I got the following error message.


"You cant upgrade this prerelease version of windows 7"

Would it be nesscessary to make a clean (new) copy of windows on my computer, rather then choose the upgrade selection on the installation setup. I really dont want to do that but i also do not want to be stuck with the beta version.

I am using a Dell Studio laptop, 2.20 Ghz Processor and 3GB ram.

hi barker, and welcome to the forums.

a clean install is generally preferred, but you can upgrade if you want, by editing one of the installation files.

mount your installation iso, and find the cversion.ini file in the sources folder, then change the MinClient number to 7232.

then resave/burn the new iso with the modified file, and everything should go smoothly.

Install of 7600

Unfortunate you need to do a clean install!

But you have an option which may helps you: WET! WET is an program whit full name Windows Easy Transfer and located at: Start ->All Programs ->Accessoires -System Tools. With WET you can copy programs and settings to an external device/drive (USB Harddisk pp) and later use WET after the clean install again for to get all back.

That may saves you the time and hassle of new installation of all programs.

Okay,

I tried the first method but the same error message came up. So i have used the WET program, and am gonna try and do a clean install tonight.

okay ill try again before doing the clean.

Do i HAVE to reburn the .iso if the files are already extracted?

It might save some time.

hi i have problem my ver is 7100 ultimate 64bit iv doned change in file to 7000 but when i try to do upgrade i got confusing message:

cant upgrade from 64 to 32 bit ver

and lower :

cant upgrade from 32 to 64 bit ver

these messages are shown in same time, so wtf?
my cd is both 32/64 bit 7600
do u mabye now why i have two of these messages? im tryin just upgrade from 64 (7100 beta ver which i downloaded from microsoft) to 64 bit(7600).

these is the name of torr.: Windows 7 Ultimate AIO Activated

im just wondering if its not easer to use WET??
