In most cases the vista drivers will work. But the Dell Branded Win 7 Pro 32bit Reinstall Disk may not work since it's an OEM and can only be used on it's origninal computer. You may need to get a retail copy of Win 7.

The easiest way is to just go get the drivers from their individual sites. For example, Intel.com would have the chipset and graphics drivers, assuming it is an Intel based laptop. If it has a Dell wireless card or an Intel wireless card, you can find them at their respective sites. I keep them all on a flash drive, so when I am done installing Windows 7, I'm ready to add the drivers.

Don't forget about Windows Update, either. You can get many of your drivers there.

Good luck, but since I'm an honest man and you said that Dell doesn't provide Win 7 drivers for that computer. then your chances of success are slim to none.

You definitely should run, before the great attempt, the Upgrade Advisor.

An honest man would have said his chances were quite good. Just because Dell doesn't offer the drivers, doesn't mean you can't get them from the direct sources. I'm typing this on a Dell Optiplex 360 that doesn't have Windows 7 x64 drivers. I got what I needed from Intel and ATI. Same goes for laptops. Sure, it involves a little more searching that going to one Dell page, but you can almost always find what you need. If not, Windows Update will take care of the rest.

I currently have 4 GB in it. It was purchased with the 4 GB, and shipped with an x64 OS installed, but yet when I put in the service tag, I am only given x86 drivers.

Far too many people thing that if you can't get them right from Dell, you can't get them....and that couldn't be farther from the truth. The Intel drivers came from Intel, and the ATI video drivers came through Windows Update. The audio drivers on Dell's site worked anyway, so I'm good to go.

Deacon is correct, you will get most driver from MS update or the mfg. the only drivers you may need from dell are specialized video drivers. Use compatibility mode if Nessa. I have 7 running on a Dell D800 that Dell said won't run on Vista let alone 7.
Good luck and we here to help if you run into a snag.

This will take you to every single file program Dell has. It is not that this is a secret or protected information, it is open for all. It is just not many poeple actually know about it. What you have to do is search the system information for the file you want and then look inside the info section for the file name such as R52371.exe for an example. Then you download and install it directly. Just be sure that you have the correct file. Many poeple lost the original disk yet they did not know the file is available for download. I hope this helps you.
