I am trying to install windows 7. I am currently running windows XP on my laptop. It is the 32bit. I start downloading and it keeps asking for a driver but i cant find one. Does anybody know what i am doing wrong? I want to try and have it working before class on Wed.

We are going to need a lot more information before we can be of help to you.

Are you trying to download it now? where are you downloading it from?

What driver is it asking for (are you running a raid)?

How did you burn the dvd (with what app)?

Please do this. If you have a store bought computer (Dell, HP, etc), at least fill in the model number so we can try to look up your hardware.

I know it's possible to install Windows 7 on your tablet PC, as I've found a thread on this forum about it, and another on a different website. If you can explain how far you get during the installation, and post the exact error message, that would help.

ok. i put the disc in and start the process. I click install now. I click the updates and agree to the terms. I then select cutom (advanced). It always comes up saying choose driver to load mass storage to. I cant find any. I let it browse and it says none were found. I tried the upgrade part but it sayd you cant upgrade from XP to 7. I thought I had the wrong copy since it said upgrade for vista on the cover of the box. The guy at the store said it will work for either.

You can't do an in-place upgrade from XP to 7 - you can use the upgrade disc, but you have to do a clean install. If you haven't already done so, take a look at the sticky posts in this installation board (the posts that are always at the top). There are several good threads about installing Windows 7.

It appears Windows 7 is looking for drivers for the hard drive. You need to provide a SATA/RAID driver in order for Windows to find your hard drive. Download the following file, then extract all of the files to a usb flash drive.

Confirm Download

When you install Windows 7 and it asks for a driver, put in the usb flash drive and browse to the usb drive. Hopefully it will find the driver it needs and allow you to install 7.
